Mr. Afoko, who condemned the action of the faceless gunmen, expressed the hope that the security agencies would soon unmask and bring the culprits to book in order for the injured persons to heave a sigh of relief for justice done.
According to him, the arrest and prosecution of those behind the shooting would serve as a deterrent to other youth groups within the city of Tamale who think they could flout the laws with impunity and get away with it.
The NPP National Chairman, who was at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to sympathise with the victims who have been on admission since last Friday, appealed to them to take heart and assured them of the party’s collaboration with the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
He warned that retaliatory attacks were not the best alternative to the matter at hand and urged relatives of the victims to keep faith with the security agencies who had promised that the gunmen would be unmasked.
Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. Prosper Akanbon, disclosed that the injured persons were adequately responding to treatment and would be discharged in a matter of days.
He added that their conditions were stabilized the very day they were rushed to the hospital.
Two of the victims, including one Zuleha Addoo and Alhassan Baako, were said to be in critical condition, but medical personnel, during the National Chairman’s visit, asserted that they were recuperating.
According to information, the NPP still insists that one Yakubu Operipaa, a known National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizer in the area, was one of the two people who shot at the jubilant supporters.
