Captain (rtd) Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party is calling for a total ceasefire of the politics of intimidation and violence in the country before it is met with ‘equal or more brutal form of its kind”.
Speaking to journalists in Tamale after a visit to the victims of the shooting incident on Thursday, the retired army captain asked delegates to vote for leaders with “experience of leading men to defend themselves and taking territories”.
He further charged the NPP delegates to move from the era of playing it safe.
“It is becoming clear in our politics that it is dangerous to play it safe; in all human endeavours playing it safe has proved to be suicidal. We cannot always sit back and take the bullets and be regarded as cowards…let it be known to all that the times have changed, the rules of the game now is fire for fire, this politics of intimidation and violence must stop before it is met with equal or somehow more brutal form of its kind. We need proactive commanders, people with the record of commanding men to defend themselves and taking territories…this kind of violence must stop, it should not be allowed to happen…it is clear ladies and gentlemen that playing it safe is becoming too risky for the NPP,” he said.
He assured the NPP members that when voted into office, he would ensure that no member of the party is put in danger.
