Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan is optimistic to replicate his current razor-sharp form this June when Brazil host the world for the FIFA soccer festival.
The Al-Ain forward continued his recent impressive form last Thursday with a hat-trick against relegation-threatened Sha’ab Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) top flight league last Thursday.
His superlative performance; scoring in the 13 th , 14 th and in the dying minutes, takes his remarkable 2013/14 season league tally to 24 in 23 games.
Last Thursday’s feat, witnessed by his senior brother, Baffour ‘Warrior’ Gyan, was the Ghana captain’s eleventh strike in his last nine games.
The former Sunderland/Renne hit man has attributed his current form to the collective effort by his colleagues and the technical team.
He expressed great joy and hinted during a post-match interview that he hoped to translate his current form to the Mundial in Brazil.
To him, the presence of top class strikers like Grafite and others who are gunning for the prestigious top scorers’ award in the Arab league, had been his driving force in the domestic league.
‘I keep motivating myself by the day,’ Asamoah Gyan underscored in an interview. He added, ‘Indeed, my current scoring rate has really boosted my morale; I am hoping to maintain this form or even go the extra mile, when we meet in Brazil.’
According to him, ‘We have been there before, that is not to say we are complacent. We will work harder and make sure we travel farther than where we got to in South Africa,’ he added.
Al Ain are lying fourth on the UAE top flight league table with 36 points – 19 points adrift from current leaders Al Ahli Dubai.
Al Ain will play as guests of Lekhwiya SC in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday.
