The Director of elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah has allayed fears that the ban on four constituencies from participating in the delegates’ conference will have any negative impact on the election of new party leadership.
It will be recalled that an Accra High Court y placed an interlocutory injunction on delegates from the Kumawu, Juabeng and Manhyia North and Okaikoi South constituencies from voting in Saturday’s conference until a re-run of polling station and constituency elections are conducted there.
Some have since raised concerns that the ban will affect the outcome of the elections.
But in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Korsah explained that “in no election will you have 100% participation although everybody would wish that you get everybody participating. It never, never happens so.”
He said it is regrettable that the delegates in those affected constituencies cannot vote but the party would have to comply with the court ruling.’
Mr. Korsah expressed the hope that the new executives who will be elected at the conference “can quickly get around this issue to bring some understanding.”
