Ashanti NPP Sends 877 Delegates

Giving the breakdown of the number that was supposed to make the trip, the Ashanti Regional secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne, said 16 delegates from each of the 47 constituencies would be in Tamale.

He announced also that 16 regional executives would also make the historic journey to the Congress centre to participate in the election of the next NPP national executives.

Mr. Pyne told DAILY GUIDE that all the 43 NPP MPs in the region had also been penciled down being eligible to cast their ballots at the function on Saturday.

The NPP scribe noted that 18 founding members of the NPP in the Ashanti Region and 48 TESCON (the party’s wing in the tertiary institutions) representatives (from the region), would also exercise their franchise.

Mr. Pyne stated that the region would be sending delegates from all the constituencies in the area, adding that so far, as far as he was concerned, no constituency had been banned from voting at the Congress.

While disclosing that all was set for the trip which was billed for yesterday, he however, refused to give the exact time of departure for security reasons, announcing that the delegates would return to their base right after the Congress.

Mr. Pyne said the executives of the party had arranged for armed police/military team to provide adequate security for all the delegates in Tamale.

He said he was anticipating a successful congress for the NPP, stressing that the party would leave Tamale as a united political entity which is poised to wrest political power from the NDC in 2016 because Ghanaians are looking to the party to come and redeem them from the austere economic situation they find themselves in.
