Black Stars farewell match slated for May 23

Event organizers Primeval Media, has launched the ‘Black Stars Farewell Match’ at a brief yet colorful event held at the media center of the Accra sports stadium this afternoon.

The launch which forms part of activities by the organization is aimed at bringing the local fans closer to the playing body of the senior national team, the Black Stars before they enplane to Brasil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup slated for June this year.

The event which is slated for 6:00pm at the Accra sports stadium on the 23rd of May 2014, will see a host of football icons, stars from the football circle as well as musicians and the entire sporting fraternity in attendance.

According to the indefatigable CEO of Primeval Media, Larry Opare Otto, this initiative was birthed from the fact that his organization strongly believes that in order for the Black Stars to have the full blessings of the entire nation ahead of the tournament, it’s imperative that, they (the local fans) will have an interaction with the players before they leave, adding that it will afford them the opportunity to get first hand information about the 23 man squad ahead of the World Cup.

“We believe that this will afford the local fans the opportunity to see their heroes one last time before the World Cup and give the Stars their blessing”, Opare Otoo said.

“The fans have been very supportive the Black Stars and Primeval Media believe that this will be the best way for the players to thank the fans one last time before emplaning to Holland for the friendly against its senior national team, then to Brazil where the tournament is being held.”

As part of the activities on the day the CEO mentioned that an XI a side game will be played by the Black Stars who will be facing their colleagues from the local league. However, the selection process for the local players who have been named ‘The Dream Team’ will be solely depend on the choice of the Ghanaian fans who will do so by text.

“The fans will have to text their preferred local player’s name to the short code 1413 on all networks in order for the players to get selected. The first twenty players with the highest number of votes from the fans will be contacted and they will form the ‘Dream Team’.

“Players from the first and second divisions as well as the Premier league will be selected an action which will comprise fifteen players from the elite league, three from the first division and two from the second division”, Jeffery Asare, Communication Director of Primeval Media mentioned in his speech.

“The texting starts today and ends on the 19th of May, after which the totality of the names will be collated and the players announced to the general public. Not only will the fans select the local players, they will as well select the other members of the technical team especially the head coach for the ‘Dream Team’. So assuming, you want Mohammed Polo to coach the ‘Dream Team’, and then send ‘Mohammed Polo’ to the short code 1413 as many times as possible”.

He revealed that the supporters were not going to be left out of the ‘goodies’ as the first five highest texters will be given prizes.

“The highest texter will be given a 42-inch plasma tv as well as some products from our yet to be announced sponsors. The rest will also win VIP to the event, tablets and modern mobile phones as well as other prizes.”

“It is going to be a day that many fans will not forget in a hurry. As part of activities to entertain the fans before during and after the exhibition match, there will be musical performances from some top musicians in the country”, he noted.

In attendance was former Black Stars defender, Joe Addo, Ibrahim Sannie Diarra (Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah (special advisor to the Sports Minister) and hiplife musicians Okyeame Kwame and Castro ‘d’ Destroyer.
