Two Jailed 19 Years For Defilement

A 67-year-old lotto receiver was on Wednesday sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 13 year old pupil at Dome, a suburb in Accra.

This was after the court had found Davis Kwadwo Danso guilty on the charge of defilement.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava, however, could not sentence Danso on four other counts, indicating that he also allegedly defiled four other victims. This was because the victims did not turn up in court.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah said the complainant is a headmistress of a school in Dome, Accra.

ASP Acquah said Danso lives in a Koisk in the same area and that, the victim in question, a class five pupil lives with her parents.

During the early part of 2011, the victim was introduced to Danso by one of her mates, who had been impregnated by Danso.

During their interaction, Danso asked her to be visiting him frequently so he could give her money.

On February 25, 2012 at about 1600 hours the victim visited Danso and he had sex with the victim and warned her not to tell anyone.

Prosecution said Danso then continued to have sex with the victim on different occasions.

On May 7, 2012, prosecution said the complainant noticed some unusual changes on the victim and suspected her of being pregnant.

The victim informed the complainant that Danso has been having sex with her and four other mates of her since 2011.

The Police then moved in and arrested Danso whilst the victims were examined medically and treated.

In another development, the same court has sentenced Michael Lokoe, a labourer, to seven years imprisonment for defiling a 14 year old girl at Spintex, a suburb in Accra.

Lokoe, who was charged with defilement pleaded guilty and the court convicted him on his own plea.

Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, prosecuting, said Lokoe, who gave the victim a mobile phone, lured the victim into a nearby kiosk and defiled her.
