Missing cocaine: Darkey sentenced to 22 years

An Accra Fast Track High Court, presided over by his Lordship Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh has sentenced Mr. Asem Darkey, popularly known as “limping man” to 22 years imprisonment.

Mr. Darkey, an alleged drug baron involved in the disappearance of the 76 parcels of cocaine, appeared before the court in 2012 and was brought under five charges: conspiracy to import narcotic drugs, importation of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs, undertaking prohibited business, and corruption of a public officer.

On March 12, the court fixed April 4 to deliver its verdict but when the case was called, the trial judge, his Lordship, Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh said he received his counsel’s submission late.

The court therefore adjourned the matter to April 10.

Mr. Dakey was found guilty for four out of the five charges leveled against him.

Passing the sentence, his Lordship, Justice Habib Logoh decried the rate at which Narcotic trade is increasing in the country.

He therefore sentenced ‘limping man’ to 22 years for each charge which will run concurrently.
