The National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu yesterday blessed Freddie Blay and prayed that the impending Congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ends successfully.

The Islamic cleric said the prayers when the gentleman, Hon. Freddie Blay, who is vying for the First Vice Chairmanship position of the NPP, called on him at his residence in New Fadama, Accra to seek spiritual intervention for the scheduled congress and the country’s unity.

Mr. Blay told his host that ‘I am here to say hello and to announce my planned departure to Tamale for the forthcoming NPP congress. I ask that you pray for all who would be taking the trip to Tamale that they may be spared road mishaps and for the congress they are attending to be devoid of eventualities. We seek God’s protection and also ask that you pray for the speedy recovery of Mr. Kwabena Agyepong and his friends who were involved in accident a couple of days ago. May God let unity prevail in the country.’

Mr. Blay said he was moved to take the decision to visit the Islamic cleric in recognition of his position as father for all Ghanaians and as a symbol of the country’s unity, regardless of political affiliations.

He had already taken similar trips to some clerics in the Christian faith.

Sheikh Sharubutu was supported in receiving his guests by senior members of his office.

He said prayers for a successful congress and those making the trip to Tamale.

‘May Almighty God protect all those making the trip to Tamale that they may be spared mishaps and eventualities. May God spare the event eventualities,’ he said.

Hon. Blay, who was excited about the reception and the prayers, promised to return to express his gratitude to the cleric for his spiritual intervention.

Mr. Blay was accompanied on the trip by Rashid Bawa, former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and others.

Mr. Blay is a frontrunner in the race for the First Vice Chairmanship position of the NPP and has just completed a nationwide tour during which he met several delegates of the party.
