The Jomoro District Police Command says it has returned the stolen equipment from the Osagyefo Barge in the Western Region.
The Jomoro Police last Friday arrested three persons for allegedly stealing equipment from the barge.
In an interview with Citi News, the Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Ferguson Gyinaku said his outfit has beefed up security at the barge after returning the stolen equipment.
According to him, now that the barge has been handed over to government, “we have beefed up security in the area. We have five armed Policemen and patrol teams also going up and down in the area.”
The arrested persons are currently on Police enquiry bail.
Meanwhile, after an inspection of the Osagyefo Barge on Tuesday, the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Emmanuel Kofi Buah told journalists that Balkan Energy, the US company that managed the barge will be held responsible if an independent audit of the facility proves any deterioration.
According to the Minister, the barge had been left under the mercy of the weather following a protracted court case against government over a judgment debt payment.
The International Court of Arbitration has already ruled that government pays Balkan Energy twelve million dollars for work done before the said abrogation of the contract.
