poison2The Volta Regional Police Command says it suspects poisoning as being the cause of the death of the family of seven in a village called Wudukpo in the region.

An entire seven-member family of Fulani herdsmen was found dead in their home on Monday together with their household animals.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, the regional commander, ACP Peter King mentioned that during investigations, they found a “liquid in a rubber container in the room that looked oily so we have taken a sample for testing.”

According to him, poisoning is the “only assumption we can make until anything is proven otherwise.”

ACP King dismissed claims that the deaths could have been a result of a misunderstanding between indigenes of the village and the Fulani herdsmen saying, “we don’t have any reason to suspect that now.”

He however disclosed that the head of the family “went to court and won a judgment against a certain man so we are looking towards that angle to see anything can come out of it.”

Their bodies have since been conveyed to Accra for autopsy.
