What ECOWAS Leaders Saw In Prez Mahama

With many opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) members seeing nothing good in the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama in Ghana and even pooh-poohing his recent appointment as Chairman of the Economic Community Of West African State (ECOWAS), a member of the Government’s Communication Team believes the President’s bold and selfless leadership style is being appreciated by leaders in the sub-region.

Following the appointment of President Mahama as Chairman of the ECOWAS at its 44th Summit in Ivory Coast at Yamoussoukro, a member of the NPP described his (Mahama’s) appointment as disaster for both Ghana and the sub-region.

Richard Asante Yeboah who was obviously disappointed with the selection of President Mahama as the next ECOWAS Chair, described the president’s appointment as a suicidal mission which will deepen the frustrations of the President as he struggles to deal with the economic situation of his country.

But Alhaji Naziru Mohammed believes the NPP’s unhappiness with President Mahama’s elevation, is nothing but sheer jealousy clouding their sense of appreciation of the good works of the President, even he strives to stabilize the country’s economy.

“Some Ghanaians, especially the opposition NPP, have failed to see anything good in President Mahama, despite his efforts to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor and also maintain peace and economic stability in the country…ECOWAS leaders have seen in him a leader who is bold, decisive and selfless who is capable to lead the sub-region to champion its course for the next one year. This is something we should be proud of as a country and I believe he can fulfill his desire to handle the terrorism going on in other parts of the sub-region”, he told Peacefmonline.com.
