Hearts Drops To Third Position On League Log

Accra Hearts of Oak dropped from their long held second position on the league table to third after losing 2-1 to Heart of Lions in the 24th week First Capital Plus (FCP) Premier league game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With just a point separating the two sides, Hearts needed a win to keep their position, whilst Lions also needed a win to overtake the former league champions and this resulted in a very competitive output from both sides.

Hearts scored first in the 28th minute through an intelligent solo move by Winful Cobbinah, who weaved through the Lions defence before chipping in the ball with his favourite left foot to the delight of the fans.

Lions equalized in the dying minutes of the first half through Kwadwo Poku whose free hit the cross before dropping behind the goal line, which though was disputed but accepted by the players of Accra Hearts of Oak afterwards.

Hearts were however on the better side of the game and could have won before the close of the first half with two begging chances on the path of Selassie Adjei and Cobbinah but were blown away.

In a game that saw an-end-to-end action, Lions managed to snatch the winner in the 78th through substitute Prince Acquah whose low kick from the edge of the box beat keeper Tetteh Luggard.

Hearts struggle to fetch the equalizer but failed as the fans again turned their frustration on coach Mohamed Ahmed Polo and referee Reginald Lathbridge.

Lions have now assumed the second position on the league table.
