The five, whose names were given as Fatau Mohammed, Williams Evadzi, Abubakari Sadiq, Moro Salifu and Ibrahim Oman, were arrested by the Amasaman Police Patrol team on April 2, 2014.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, told journalists that the police intercepted the suspected land guards at Aborkope, near Amasaman, in a Nissan Pathfinder, with registration number AS 971 F.

Gang of land guards

According to the police, the suspects belonged to a gang of notorious land guards who had been terrorising residents and landowners in Amasaman and its environs.

Mr Yuhonu said the police, after searching the suspects, found a pump action gun, two live cartridges and a quantity of dried lives suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects, who were believed to be on their way to carry out an operation on a piece of land in the area, were also found to be in possession of two knives and two machetes.

“We are once again asking for public support and collaboration in the fight against land guards and crime in the Accra Region,” the Regional Police Commander said, after he had appealed to the public, especially residents of Amasaman, to provide information on the operations of land guards to the police to assist in arresting those miscreants.
