The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano North, David Addae Amankwa has denied accusations that the District Assembly is aiding the activities of illegal miners in Subriso Nfante in the Ashanti Region.
Farmers in Subriso Nfante have told Citi News, activities of illegal miners have destroyed their farmlands and polluted their water sources.
According to them, several appeals made to the District Assembly to flush out the miners have not been successful.
The DCE, Mr. Addae Amankwa however says the Assembly is working tactically to flush out illegal miners from the District.
He stated that steps are being taken to tackle the matter “but it’s not a one day affair that we can use sack them from the area…the very moment you apply force, lives may be lost.”
The DCE appealed to the residents and farmers to exercise patience so that “we can get them out of the area “without any injury.”
