Ghana’s leading gospel acapella group, Alabaster Box, have been featured on the BBC Focus on Africa. The four member group, which has been in existence for 19 years, says their brand of music is called Afropella.

The group was founded and led by Samuel Narku Dowuona, a journalist and musician, in 1995. Other members of the group are Gideon Allotey – bass, Horst Ayub – falseto and Michael Allotey – tenor.

The groups popularity has soared over the years and at a point got to play for Queen Elizabeth II.

Their vocal prowess is evident in the way they mimic the indigenous Ghanaian instruments and combine with their ethereal voices to produce awesome rhythms.
