Aboakyer Festival Celebration Launched In Winneba

Mr Peter Acquah, Chairman of the 2014 Planning Committee of the Effutu Aboakyer Festival celebration, has appealed to the people in Winneba to ensure a peaceful and successful celebration of this year’s festival.

He pointed out that the uniqueness of Aboakyer makes it a global festival because it embraces people from all walks of life, notably Ghanaians, both home and abroad.

Mr Acquah made the appeal at the launch of the 2014 Aboakyer Festival celebration in Winneba on Tuesday.

Mr Acquah urged the people to close their ranks to harness and pool the resources and wealth entailed in the celebration of Aboakyer for the development of the area.

According to him the 10-day programme of activities starts from Thursday, April 24, through Sunday May 4

The climax of it all will be the hunting of a live deer which shall be presented to the Nananom at the durbar grounds on Saturday, May 3 by one of the Asafo companies.

He made it clear that the “committee has neither been formed to usurp the powers of any traditional authority or to disregard the legitimacy of any traditional institution”.

Mr Acquah said this year’s Aboakyer Festival is all about oneness for the Effutu State, hence its theme: “Peace and Unity-Keen for Development”.

He reminded the Media that in their quest to showcase the true cultural values of the Effutu State to the outside world, they must be decorous in their reportage in order not to forment any trouble in the area.

Mr Francis Djan Ghunney, a businessman in Winneba, who performed the launch, urged Effutus to bury their differences, to ensure absolute peace in the area.
