Transport operators in the country have criticized the National Petroleum Authority(NPA) for not consulting them before increasing the fuel prices.
A manager at the VIP Bus terminal in Accra who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity stated that the NPA deliberately ignored their contributions to the fuel price increment.
“They are just cheating on us and they know it. You don’t increase the fuel and wait for the drivers to take their own decision before you come out with prices. When you are taking decisions, just seek our consent,” he lamented
He stated that the bus drivers will announce their new fares after the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) approves the new fares.
“There is an increase in fuel prices. We know it already but we cannot decide to increase arbitrarily until the prices are out,” he explained.
Meanwhile, commercial drivers and passengers in the Central Region, Cape Coast are complaining about the seven percent increment in fuel prices.
The drivers have threatened to increase transportation fares without approval from the GPRTU.
