Some aggrieved supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have kicked against attempts to introduce proxy voting for the impending national delegates conference slated for Tamale on April 12.
They demonstrated against the move on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters.
Citi News sources revealed that there were about 137 proxy voters on the delegate list, but the group calling itself the Faithful Group of NPP are vehemently opposed to the proxy voters’ list.
The group’s leader, Alhaji Buhari, Ayawaso East Constitueny Organizer told Citi News the proxy voters list was a scam.
He alleged it was a machination by some of the incumbent national executives who are seeking re-election aimed at rigging the polls.
Alhaji Buhari proposed that all delegates should be present at the conference grounds to cast their votes to ensure free, fair and transparent election.
Meanwhile Citi News uncovered that the first tranche of GHC 50,000 was paid into a special account opened for the Tamale conference.
The said amount was meant for security, transportation, food and grounds decoration.
At the National Executive meeting, top on the agaenda was preparations ahead of the Tamale delegates conference.
A sub committee headed by Member of Parliament for Okre and a former General Secretary of the NPP, Hon. Dan Kwaku Botwe was to receive a report from the logistics officer on how logistics were disbursed during the 2012 elections.
The move formed part of measures put in place to ensure probity and accountability during the last elections in view of wild allegations made by Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong that some motorbikes meant for the 2012 campaign activities were diverted for personal gains.
