THE INCESSANT attacks by leading members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his recent public declaration to contest the flagbearership slot of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the third time, has angered a Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, and has therefore told President Mahama and his appointees to shut up and rather concentrate on working to improve the ailing economy.
According to Prince Kofi Diawuo, the NDC Propaganda Secretary for Asunafo North in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Ghanaians are suffering too much, and instead of the government working hard to improve their living conditions, the President and his appointees have been spending all their energies on Nana Akufo-Addo’s declaration, which he made last week Thursday, March 20.
“Party activists, executives, and serial callers are all crying that they are hungry. Ghanaians are also crying. Only a few people are now enjoying in Ghana, yet the President and his appointees are not doing anything about that. They should leave Akufo-Addo alone and focus on their jobs,” the NDC stalwart told DAILY GUIDE in an interview on Monday.
Mr. Diawuo lambasted people around the President for feeding him with wrong information about the realities on the ground, saying that “they are there to say things to please the President in order to get big contracts and largesse.”
He said Nana Akufo-Addo declaring his intention to contest the NPP flagbearership race is not an issue that should take “a whole government” and party machinery to react to in days.
According to him, “age does not matter in politics but one’s ability to perform.” He indicated that Nana Akufo-Addo could easily win the 2016 elections, regardless of his age and the various vile propaganda theories that the NDC hatches against him, if President Mahama failed to perform to better the lives of the many suffering Ghanaians.
The NDC key figure recalled that a similar scenario emerged before the 2000 elections when the NPP picked then candidate John Agyekum Kufuor as its presidential candidate.
According to him, the NDC spent all its energy attacking Kufuor and said all manner of things against him, and even claimed that an Ashanti could never become a President of Ghana since Komfo Anokye was said to have declared so.
He said though the NDC at the time was a very formidable party in government, it lost the 2000 elections since the then government failed to concentrate on the real issues affecting the people of Ghana.
The NDC Propaganda Secretary warned that if care was not taken the 2000 scenario could repeat itself in 2016.
