Kumasi, March 24, GNA – Alhaji Dr Abdul Rauf, Ashanti Regional first Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for strict enforcement of the Partys code of ethics to help tackle the growing indiscipline and to mute ugly noises by some of its members.

He said everything must be done to ensure that the Partys constitution was upheld, adding that this was the path to travel to avoid needless distractions and allow it to focus on the task ahead in 2016.

He was addressing members of the Kumasi Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP to mark their annual week celebrations in Kumasi.

Alhaji Rauf expressed worry about what he termed negative practices currently going on in the party, including vote-buying and vilification and warned that these could have adverse consequences on our political fortunes.

He said he was unhappy with the utterances of some leading members on internal matters in the media and said these were disheartening and mind-boggling and would have to stop.

He said it was important to pull together, work hard and make the necessary sacrifices to bring the NPP back to power.

The clarion call to every member is to sit up and accept to live up to their responsibility to the party and the suffering people of Ghana, Alhaji Rauf said and called for unity not only among themselves but also with all people regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation.

Alhaji Rauf urged TESCON members to renew their commitment to the party and step up their political education campaign, especially in their constituencies to win over more voters ahead of the 2016 general elections.

He said they should help the people to have better understanding of the dire economic situation of the nation – the mismanagement and ineptitude of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Ishaq Kyei Brobbey, Chief Patron of K-Poly TESCON, said the group represented the future of the party and therefore the need to be supported and motivated to become more functional.

He said the youth should be adequately trained to efficiently perform at all levels of the party.

Madam Serwaa Derkyi, the Second Regional Vice Chairperson, appealed to young women in tertiary institutions to take front line role in party politics to enable them become part of political decisions affecting them.

Mr George Ayisi Boateng, a Founder Member of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, urged the leadership to act decisively to bring to order those whose conduct was threatening the unity and cohesion of the party.

He said he found it particularly disturbing the unguarded pronouncements by few of the members and that it was important not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Mr Ayisi-Boateng appealed to delegates to the national congress to reward loyalty, commitment and dedication as they elect new leaders to run the party.
