Photo of the Week: ‘We are working for you’: John Jinapor wants you to know

A Deputy Minister of Energy John Abdulai Jinapor, posted this photo and wrote ‘We are working around the clock to solve the current energy challenges.’

The selfie was posted the same day, Tuesday, when his boss, Energy and Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah had left for Nigeria, where he held urgent talks with his counterpart there in a bid to ending Ghana’s power crisis.

Ghana is facing another awful episode of black-outs, managed through a load management schedule.

A shortage in the supply of gas from Nigeria to power thermal plants in Takoradi has triggerred Ghana’s latest round of regulated darkness locally termed ‘dumsor’.

A painful utility tariff increase last year has not been compensated with improved energy supply its proponents promised.

Government has apologised for the unbearable inconvenience caused by the blackouts.

Ghana’s energy crisis will be over if government can fund it with $4 billion, the Technical Working Group set up by government said last year.

The deputy minister is apparently eager to demonstrate that despite all the odds, he is particularly and actually ‘working for you’.
