Work has started on a second military hospital in the Ashanti region ahead of sod-cutting scheduled for mid-April.
The 500 bed facility, sited at Afari in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, is expected to augment healthcare delivery in the region.
Defense Minister, Mark Wayongo, says the project should be completed in the next three years to serve military personnel in Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo and the three northern regions.
He observes military health facilities like the 37 Military Hospital and Police Hospital have served public good, especially when public medical officers embark on strike.
The Minister is hopeful the new project would be beneficial to the northern sector when alternative medical services are needed in challenging times.
Mr. Wayongo believes the hospital will also help reduce the pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He made this revelation when he called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu the Second.
The minister also addressed a durbar of military personnel at the Northern Command.
Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong was grateful to the decision by the military to site the hospital in the region.
“Politics means leaving indelible marks in the lives of people so the people of Ashanti would remember you for that,” he said.
