Statement: Reform For Youth Empowerment on Akufo-Addo’s March 20 declaration

Reform For Youth Empowerment   MARCH 17, 2014

As we await the 20th March day declaration of the intent of Nana AKufo-Addo to contest the NPP’s flagbearership and his eventual political coronation in the near but not distant future as the NPP’s 2016 presidential candidate. This is evident per internal party’s intimidation and ground political machination against other flagbearer aspirants –

But what remains doubtful is his ability and capacity not only to carry his party but to overcome his genuine lack of political/electoral credibility in the face of discerning majority of Ghanaians who ultimately will decide who becomes the next president of the Republic of Ghana.

It is in this light, that Nana Akufo-Addo will set forth to make far reaching political statements with the intent to renew and redeem his political/electoral image  to be reconsidered favourably by Ghanaians to attain his last wish of becoming the President of the Republic of Ghana. In fulfilment of this ambition, Nana Akufo-Addo seeks to seize the March 20 day declaration to make a profound political/ cultural statement on his negative tribal image, willing to render an unqualified apology for his indiscretion tribal declaration of “YEN AKANFO” and denounce the “ALL DIE BE DIE” mantra. He is prepared to denounce tribalism and ALL DIE BE DIE in all its forms and shapes to foster a positive self-image ahead of the 2016 presidential elections.

Till date, Nana Akufo-Addo is still defensive and unapologetic of his infamous tribal declaration – YEN AKANFO and/or ALL DIE BE DIE. It is our considered political conviction that tribal apology must be genuine and sincere. It must leave no room for doubt. Together, let us aspire to build a more united Ghana where no tribe or religion is exalted high and above others.

Again, Nana Akufo-Addo will take advantage of his 20th March declaration to profusely apologise to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. Also, he is prepared to condemn unprovoked political attacks on innocent Ghanaians by his unruly party follower/supporters on the streets of Accra and beyond, after his famous defeat in the 2012 presidential elections. In his name, as widely publicized by the Ghanaian media, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene was falsely accused of bribery the Supreme Court Justices for favourable ruling in favour of President John Dramani Mahama, after his infamous electoral petition was eloquently dismissed after eight months of needless electoral litigation. Though the NPP has issued a statement to that effect, we equally deem it proper and befitting that Nana Akufo- Addo personally renders an unqualified public apology to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.

Nana Akufo-Addo is due and expected to break his silence on Kennedy Agyepong’s 2012 infamous genocidal crusade which dangerously seeks to have Ewe’s, Gas’s killed/beaten in Akan regions/dominated communities. In spite of the huge public outcry and condemnation, he has failed to publicly condemn it. His silence was profoundly loud in the hearts and minds of Ewe’s and Gas’s and to large extent non Akan speaking people.

To this, we welcome his bold decision to render an unqualified apology and/or distant himself from the Kennedy Agyepong’s genocidal crusade.

More refreshing is the news that Nana Akufo-Addo, for renewal of his political image will rebuke/condemn the unpopular decision of the NPP’s elected Members of Parliament through their Minority Leader, denounced and resolved not to recognize President John Dramani Mahama’s Presidency, disrespectfully boycotted the presidential inauguration and by doing so brought the Office of the Presidency into public disrepute and ridicule. In addition, in an unpatriotic/indiscipline manner boycotted the work of parliament to large extent including the vetting of Ministers of State.

This is honorable and laudable on Nana Akufo-Addo’s part in that the constitution of Ghana should not be set aside and/or selectively abused for partisan consideration and/or the Office of the President gravely disrespected and our Parliament arrogantly mocked without any consequences.

Nana Akufo-Addo, will vigorously defend his age and health to assure not only his party but Ghanaians at large. There is no doubt that genuine concerns of his age and conditions of ill-health necessitating treatment in London and long medical vacation is gaining considerable weight not only in the NPP but in corporate Ghana as well. It is a huge issue within the party and secretly are concerned with wondering whether corporate Ghana is willing to consider him and let alone risk electing him the President. Yet Nana Akufo-Addo is defiant and his followers supportive of his defiance not to step aside. Time will tell.

It is revealing that today it is the NPP that is having this debate. The NPP constantly harassed and ill-treated former President John Evans Atta Mills on grounds of his ill-health – never in their wildest political dream ever contemplated of having this debate in their party not least a person but Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. Former President John Evans Atta Mills was humiliated and countlessly embarrassed by their Party’s Communication Chiefs at the least opportunity. The unending calls and demands for public disclosure of his health conditions and confidential health records. On Nana Akufo-Addo’s age and seemly ill-health conditions, can we do otherwise?

To Nana Akufo-Addo, though Former President John Evans Atta Mills was not on walking stick yet severally was pronounced dead and mocked by his Party’s Communication chiefs but gracefully outlived their ungodly wishes. Will he be lucky?

Corruption in the NPP. Kennedy Agyepong is widely reported labeling the leadership of the largest opposition Party, the NPP not only as corrupt but also thieves. Nana Akufo-Addo must seize the 20th March Declaration to be heard. Ghanaians dislike corruption, thievery and will never tolerate a leadership which is corrupt in opposition and is seeking to form the next government. A corrupt opposition is more treacherous than a perceived corrupt government.

Nana Akufo-Addo’s permanent electoral misfortune for forever remaining the most celebrated opposition leader but never elected president in the 4th Republic must be a lesson to all politicians particularly those who wish to serve Ghana at the highest office. You must never be a symbol of a tribal warlord and/or electoral litigant.

Whilst Nana Akufo- Addo is clothed with heavy political burden of disproving his irredeemable political image and/or electoral credibility, vainly defending his age and failing health conditions; the NDC government, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama will continuously focus on touching many more Ghanaian lives through his leadership, vision, alternative strategic development strategies in providing varying progressive solutions to corporate Ghana and national problems/challenges.

We dismiss the vile opposition propaganda that Nana Akufo-Addo is a problem to the NDC government. Nana Akufo-Addo is never our problem. He is enough problem to himself and to the NPP as a political Party at large. We appeal to Ghanaians to continue to support the NDC government in tackling the real problems facing it. The problems of absence of strong and viable domestic investment capital market, bridging sectorial infrastructural gap, modernized and commercialized large-scale agriculture, reliable energy, youthful unemployment, including the structural transformation of the Ghanaian economy.
