Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko says his position on the ballot paper gives him an advantage over his opponents.
Mr. Afoko said being third on the ballot paper makes him the obvious choice because the number three represents NPP’s founding fathers, Danquah, Busia and Dombo.
Balloting for the chairmanship position was held at the NPP headquarters Monday with the incumbent Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey picking the number one spot.
Steve Ntim who is making a third attempt, picked the second position while former first Vice Chairman, Fred Oware picked the forth position.
The battle line has now been drawn for the party’s National Delegates’ Congress scheduled for April 12, 2014 in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale after the completion of balloting for the chairman position.
All four aspirants are confident of becoming chairman to lead the party to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
But Paul Afoko in an interview with CitiNews said his position on the ballot paper is strategic.
“I have the trinity of our founding fathers; Danquah-Busia-Dombo which is the winning number,” he added.
The chairman aspirant who was nearly disqualified after a group alleged he was an ex-convict said his position on the ballot paper has boosted his confidence in the race.
Paul Afoko expressed joy at the party’s decision to hold its first ever National Delegates Congress in Tamale in honour of one of its founding fathers, Chief Simon Diedong Dombo.
“If after 60 years the NPP has decided to hold its first delegates’ congress in the Northern region and I am exceedingly happy that the trinity has come together on my ballot paper”.
Paul Afoko who has promised to embark on pragmatic programmes to make the NPP a party of choice, urged party delegates to make his dream a reality by voting massively for him.
