Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that fear and panic has gripped police officers in the Volta Region, particularly those in the regional and district capitals, over some intended sanctions and mass transfers.

The transfers and sanctions come in the wake of revelations made by the immediate past Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, the Regional Police Headquarters, Bureau of National Investigations and National Security over the corrupt and unprofessional conduct of some officers in the region.

This was disclosed by anonymous sources close to some security agencies within the region. According to the sources, the immediate past Regional Minister, Nii Afotey-Agbo and the new Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae were incensed by the misconduct of these officers and were putting measures in place to tame them and curb the situation.

This position was seemingly confirmed when Nii Afotey-Agbo registered his displeasure over such misconduct to ACP Doku, Director in Charge of Logistics, Police Headquarters, Accra.

He therefore urged the Regional Commander to ensure that all police officers in Ho for instance be transferred to the hinterlands while those in the hinterlands be transferred to the urban centres. He urged ACP Doku to send the report to Accra and help facilitate the move.

Nurses Quarters
He was speaking at the commissioning of a GH¢50,000 nurses quarters for the Akrofu Health Centre constructed in memory of Vida Emefa Hlodze, the sister of Ludwig Akpene Hlodze who died a year ago. The two-bedroom structure was constructed with funds from Emefa’s funeral donations, donations from philanthropists, friends and relations.

According to Ludwig who is the National Youth Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), his sister was a police officer, but had great love for the health centre and had passion to improve the facility when she was alive.

Corrupt Officers
Nii Afotey-Agbo, who has gone back to the Greater Accra Region, expressed shock over how police officers would refuse to escort an exhibit arrested from Ho to Accra for reasons best known to them.

This, he said, caused the exhibits to be re-arrested and confiscated for over 12 hours in transit.

The sources also revealed to DAILY GUIDE how some Police officers liaised with drug dealers and smugglers to outwit the service, customs and other security agencies. He said ‘in some cases the Police escort the smugglers.’

Maternal Health
The Regional Director of Health Services, Joseph Teye Nuetey, noted that should the Municipal Assembly be able to build two structures, including a laboratory, the directorate would ensure it is equipped and sent a physician assistant to improve health service.
