Ashanti Regional NPP Executives Free To Back Anyone Of Their Choice – Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, says despite his call on the elephant party to maintain its 2008/2012 presidential candidate for 2016 polls, any prospective flagbearer aspirant wishing to contest Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not be discriminated against by supporters and executives of the party drawn from the Ashanti Region.

According to Mr Boasiako also known as “Chairman Wontumi” his executives are free to decide for themselves who to lead the party.

“I will never force them to campaign for Nana Addo…that is not the issue. I will just advise them that if they want the party to regain power then they think well. Most of the delegates and sympathizers of the party are calling for Nana Addo to lead the party again. All the 10 regions are calling for him.

“…All I will tell my executive members is to choose a presidential candidate for the party wisely. I will never insist on them to rally behind Nana Addo just because I am for him (Nana Addo),” he said.

Though Nana Addo has set 20th of March 2014 to declare his intention as to whether he will contest for the NPP’s flagbearer race, many including Wontumi have called on the party leadership to heed to the call for unity if they wish to see the party in power in 2016 by selecting Nana Addo for the third time; albeit unopposed.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s Me Man Nti Monday, Mr. Antwi Boasiako opined that, his call for Nana Addo was as a result of an advise given to him by former President John Agyekum Kufour.

“After my chairmanship contest…I went to President Kufour (Ex) and he advised me to join the majority in decision making. His wish is to see his party occupying the Jubilee House (Flagstaff House). The masses are calling for Nana Addo and I support that call that Nana Addo must go unopposed,” he stated.
