GCB To Spend Over GH¢1m In Support Of Ghana’s 2014 World Cup Participation

Ghana Commercial Bank Limited (GCB) has budgeted about GH¢1 million towards Ghana’s participation in the world cup in Brazil in June.

This comprises sponsorship of some 30 Ghanaians including the Bank’s customers to Brazil, a donation to facilitate the creation of a Ghana Black Star Village in Brazil and the sponsorship of live telecast of matches for the benefit of the majority of Ghanaians.

Dr. Fritz Gockel, Board Chairman of the Bank, disclosed this when the Bank presented a cheque for GH¢300,000.00 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Accra today towards the Creation of the Village.

Dr. Gockel was assisted by the Managing Director of GCB, Mr Simon Dornoo to present the cheque to Mr. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, the Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Board Chairman said apart from facilitating the creation of the Ghana Black Star Village in Brazil, the donation will help in preparatory works to enhance national visibility as well as market the investment potential of the country.

He recounted Ghana’s classic experience of a 3-3 draw with Real Madrid some decades back which projected the nation so positively on the international sphere and expressed the hope that Ghana would excel at this year’s world cup.

The Sports Minister described GCB as “Ghana’s patriotic bank” adding that it has demonstrated its national interest as a Ghanaian Bank.
He said the ministry will account fully for all funds received in relation to Ghana’s participation in the world cup adding that this will be transparent.

Last week GCB launched a three-month promotion to sponsor 30 of its customers to support the national team at the World Cup in Brazil.

Dubbed “GCB 30 TO BRAZIL” the promo started from March 12, 2014 and will end on May 31, 2014. The more multiples of GHS1,000.00 topped up and maintained in one’s account, the more points one earns to enter the draw and the better the customer’s chances of winning.

GCB customers and prospective customers are required to make deposits of GHC1,000.00 or multiples of it for the draw period for at least one month, to qualify to enter the draw each month.
