BRAZIL 2014:Cabinet Has Not Aapproved $100,000 Appearance Fee For Black Stars

Ghana’s Minister of Information and Media Relations, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has confirmed on Asempa FM that the cabinet has not approved the much publicized $100,000 appearance fee for Ghana’s players who will be playing at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in June.

The Minister stated that the GH¢24,677,025 budget approved for the June World Cup did not include the $100,000 appearance fee for Ghana’s players.

A breakdown of the total amount indicates that for the first group stage of the competition, Cabinet approved GH¢10,500,000 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to finance Ghana’s participation.

For subsequent stages of the competition, a further amount of GH¢14,177,025 has also been budgeted to cover the team’s expenses if they qualify.

This brings Government commitment to the Black Stars’ participation to a total of GH¢24,677,025.

He mentioned that “What Cabinet approved did not include the supposed $100,000 appearance fee for Ghana’s players so I find it strange that rumours have gained rounds that the appearance fee for the World Cup has been approved” he stressed.
