The Ghana Dance Ensemble will today present ‘Bukom’, a dance drama choreographed by Prof F. Nii Yartey as part of Celebrating Accra Arts Festival (CAAF).

The piece, which would be repeated on Saturday, March 15, is set in Bukom- one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in Accra. It reveals in graphic detail the activities of gangs in the sprawling neighbourhood amidst visual creativity and artistic humour.

Yartey, who is familiar with the community, effectively captures through expressive movements and figurative sounds, the complicated and complex life in this famous part of Accra, which is also characterised by numerous success stories.

With its message transmitted through stinging commentary, the audience is transported to Bukom, which is close to the centre of Accra for a hilarious narration of events that illustrate the rich history of Bukom.

DANIDA, Ghana Denmark Cultural Fund, Danish Embassy in Accra, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Goethe-Institut, British Council and the Alliance Française are supporting CAAF 2014, which is being organised by the Institute for Music and Development.
