Nigerians With 27 Slabs Of ‘Wee’ Busted

Two Nigerians have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle 27 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, popularly referred to as ‘wee’.

The suspects, Kingsley Ekezie Chima, 30, and Nicolas Ucheama Mbeagbu, 27, were arrested by personnel of the Narcotics Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service at a bus terminal at Avenor in Accra.

Wee in Secret Compartments

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the CID, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Joseph B. Darkwah, said the arrest was based on police intelligence.

A search conducted on a Lagos-bound bus at the ABC Bus Terminal, near the Avenor Junction in Accra, which had the two suspects on board revealed that two travelling bags belonging to the two had been stuffed with the illegal substance.

Mr Darkwah said officials of the unit found the slabs of dried leaves concealed in compartments created at the sides and beneath the bags and covered with clothes to make it look as if the bag contained only the personal effects of the travellers.

Ghana Wee Cheap

He said the two suspects, in separate statements, admitted ownership of the slabs of dried leaves.

“They stated that the substance is cheaper in Ghana but very expensive in their home country, hence their decision to traffic it from Ghana to Nigeria,” Mr Darkwah said.

He stated that the substance would be forwarded to the forensic laboratory for examination to determine its true nature.

The two suspects have been refused bail and are currently in police custody.
