Brazilian Ambassador Cautions Fans Over Expensive World Cup…Says $11,000 Per Head Not Enough

The Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Irene Vida Gala, has cautioned prospective soccer fans intending to travel to Brazil for this summer’s World Cup to stock their purses well for the showpiece.

In an interview, the ambassador stated: “Brazil is a very expensive country. I hear some people say $11,000 will be okay (for one person) but I doubt it would be.

“You go to Brazil and you marvel at the tourist attraction and the big hotels. You can’t just go and see only football matches. I’m sure you will love to go to the beaches and all that is not going to be easy.

“The standard of living in Brazil has risen more than three times in the past year; that should tell you how costly it is to go there.”

Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah returned from the South American country in the company of Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials early this year to confirm the ambassador’s claims.

As a result, he indicated that government would find it difficult to airlift many soccer fans for the Mundial, after checks proved that the 20th edition will be the most expensive showpiece in the history of the games.
