Bimbilla Shooting Incident: 14 Granted Bail

A Circuit Court in Tamale has granted bail to 14 out of the 15 suspects arrested in connection with last week’s shooting incident in Bimbilla, which led to the death of one person.

Two factions in the area clashed over burial arrangements for the Chief of Nakpa, who passed away a week ago.

Outgoing Northern Regional Minister, Bede Zieden, has been to the area with a team from the Regional Security Council to assess the situation. A 12-hour curfew imposed on the area remains in place.

Joy News’ Hashmin Mohammed was in court and confirms the suspects had been granted bail by the judge.

He reported counsel for the suspects Rauf Abdul Halid as saying the charges of rioting and use of offensive weapons preferred against his clients are bailable offences and ought to be granted bail.

Justice Amegayi Senyo agreed with him and granted bail to 14 out of the 15 suspects.

Sulleymana who was allegedly possessing an AK47 when he was arrested has however been remanded to reappear in court.
