64 Year Old Security Guard Commits Suicide

A Sixty-four year old retired security guard at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, was on Monday found hanging dead on a tree at Adarko Gyakye near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, Daniel Asenso, was found hanging on a tree behind his home. Ultimate Radio’s Nana Oye Diabene, who visited the scene says the mortal remains was decaying when it was found.

As at the time of filing this report, the body had been engulfed with flies as police struggled to bring it down from the tree and convey it to the morgue. The Police say they suspect the incident may have happened three days earlier.

Detective Inspector Kwabena Boateng of the Ejisu Police Command told Ultimate Radio information they had gathered indicate, that about a month ago, the deceased made an attempt to commit suicide but later rescinded his decision.

“According to information we gathered, three days ago he took his cutlass and informed the family he was going to his farm but never returned. It was later they realized he had hanged himself on plot close to his house. He was found in a pair of black trousers and a multicolored short sleeved shirt and he used a yellowish sponge to hang himself.”

He however noted that there are no immediate clues as to why he may have committed the act because he was a very quite person with very few friends and also kept issues to himself very often. According to the family of the deceased, he went missing since last week, and that they only got wind of the bizarre news when a pungent stench in the vicinity, led his children to the decaying body.

The family members are still shocked over the incident as they claim the man never showed any signs he was troubled and could commit suicide. A Family Head, who had been called in from his village after the incident, told Nana Oye Diabene that as far as they were concerned, “the deceased was financially sound and has no psychological and medical problems.”

A brother of the deceased in shock told Ultimate Radio, “as far as I am concerned, there is nothing that can move him to the extent of killing himself. Financially he is all right because he has been able to build such a house so I don’t know why he should do so” he wondered.

The body has been deposited at the Juabeng Government Hospital pending autopsy. The deceased was survived by a wife and nine children.
