Adomi Bridge to be closed down today

adomiThe Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region is expected to be closed on Monday.

The closure is to make way for major rehabilitation works to begin on the bridge.

The Ghana Highway Authority in that regard has revealed that travellers to Ho and other parts of the country through the Eastern corridor would be ferried by a pontoon from Atimpoku to Akrade, where an alternative route has been constructed for light duty vehicles.

The ferry services will also enable commuters cross the River.

The development is likely to have an adverse effect on economic activity as thousands of residents from the area as well Akosombo and adjoining towns , trade their wares such as “abolo with one man thousand” fish, roasted snails and shrimps.

Meanwhile, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Francis Komla Ganyaglo has revealed that alternative routes to Accra would also be fixed soon.

“Most of the road networks have been awarded on contract, including Ho, Adidome among others.The other areas from Tsepe to Aboadze are also being considered for work to begin. At the moment, the feeder roads will be working on them and so we are committed as a government to work on the roads and open up the place,” he said.

He however stated that the bridge will be closed and vehicular traffic will be diverted.

The bridge which spans the Volta River from Atimpoku to Akrade was designed in 1957 by William Brown, of the Engineers Fox and Partners.
