Alhaji Grunsah Claims Kotoko Has A Known History of Fixing Matches To Win League

Founder of Kumasi-based King Faisal Football Club Alhaji Karim Grunsah says he has knowledge of a long standing history of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fixing crucial and decisive matches to win league and cup matches.

The astute football administrator claims he has known his regional rivals having a history of fixing matches to suit them, dating back over four decades. The outspoken bankroller asserted that he has received several information, and in some instances watched Kotoko fix matches especially at the Baba Yara Stadium.

A section of the Kotoko fans approached Grunsah at the Baba Yara stadium accusing him of ‘begging’ Kotoko officials to play it soft with his side in the week 19 of the Ghana Premier League which King Faisal won 1-0. But Grunsah is denying ever meeting Kotoko officials to play a match of convenience said it is rather the record Ghana premier League champions who are well known to have a history of fixing matches.

Grunsah told Kumasi-based Angel FM “When they (Kotoko) beat us 3-0 in the first round, we accepted it in good fate but there were a lot things that passed under the carpet that we cannot say it on air, that is what they do, a lot of things happened in the dressing room that you will be shocked if I tell you”.

“Whoever said Kotoko sold the match to King Faisal saying the match should be a draw, the match should end in this or that is not true”.

“They (Kotoko) have been playing fix matches to win trophies in Ghana and this they have admitted in the presence of Otumfuo (Asantehene Osei Tutu II) that they bought some matches to win the league, we were all here in Kumasi and we heard it”.

“If I want to tell you the history of Kotoko and what I know of them, you will know Kotoko is not a team”.

“I was in the stadium when Kotoko played a match in this town at the Baba Yara stadium and the goalkeeper was reading a graphic in post whiles the match was still being played because they had fixed the match and nobody was shooting to him”.

“Ask Osei Kofi (Reverend), he played in that match for Kotoko and he and the other Kotoko players were joking in the game throughout, they will get to the Adansiman goalkeeper and then turn back to their own half again.”

“You people were not born by that time so you don’t know Kotoko, I think it was in the 1968/69 season and they fixed a match so that Corner Stones got relegated”.

“When you are based in Kumasi as a club, Kotoko will try to destroy your team because they see you as a competitor, meanwhile clubs in other regions will play and support each other to stay up”.

“Me I know Ghana football, I know football and I have studied football so I know what I’m talking about, I know Kotoko history”.

Grunsah also alledged that an official of Kotoko wanted him (Grunsah) to meet with them so they could play a match of convenience but he Grunsah refused to oblige.

Grunsah’s outbursts is likely to attract the attention of the Ethics Committee of the Ghana football Association as the comments seem to cast slur on the image of the record champions, and the league in general.
