Northern Women’s Group Root For Otiko Djaba

A northern women’s political group affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has thrown its support behind the incumbent National Women’s Organiser of the party, Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba, who is seeking for a second term in office.

Members of the group, known as Yaayi, which literally means “it has happened” in the Hausa language, believe that the incumbent has served the party well and deserves a second term.

Addressing journalists in Accra, the National Secretary of Yaayi, Hajiatu Bintu Munkaila, described Otiko as a “mother, social character, and eloquent politician, who uses her position and influence to champion the wellbeing of the northern woman and girl.

She appealed to delegates to rally behind the incumbent National Women’s Organiser, who is fluent in Hausa, Dagbani, and Mampurshi and has the charisma to garner votes for the NPP in the northern regions, which are considered as the strongholds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Hajia Bintu Munkaila disagreed with the popularly held perception that the NPP is an anti-Muslim and anti-northern political party in Ghana.

“If not for the NPP under President John Kuffour no Muslim would have ever served as the second-in-command of this country and the presidential office would never have seen a Qur’an” she said.

She appealed to the delegates to vote for Otiko as the NPP prepares for congress and she also called on Ghanaians to vote for the NPP in 2016 due to the hardship caused by the ruling NDC under President John Mahama.
