demo (2)The Coalition for Farmers Rights and Advocacy Against GMO’s (COFAM) has rescheduled its demonstration to April, 17 2014.

The Coalition planned to demonstrate on Thursday, March 6, but the Police administration refused them permission, explaining that they will not have enough officers to protect them due to the Independence Day anniversary parade.

A member of the campaign committee of COFAM, Ernesto Yeboah, explained to Citi News that the demonstration was postponed because, “we realized that even though Independence Day has a strong significance on the message that we wanted to share in the course of our demonstration, April 17 also comes across equally strong.”

He mentioned that April 17 is an international day for the protection of farmer’s rights” therefore, it was prudent to reschedule.

The coalition is to demonstrate in Accra to protest the introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) into the country’s food chain.
