Stop Campaigning Against Sitting MPs – NPP

The Eastern Regional Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr David Prah, has cautioned supporters of the party who are interested in contesting for parliamentary seats in the Region to desist from campaigning against members of parliament.

He said the regional executive of the party were not happy about the way some supporters of the party in the Region had started campaigning against sitting members of parliament with the aim of winning the heart of the people.

He said those who are doing such thing should desist from the act since the party would deal drastically with anybody who would be found to have done such a thing.

Mr Prah told the GNA in an interview that in Koforidua on Wednesday that the practice, if not checked, had the tendency of undermining the unity of the party in the Region.

He said information available to the regional executive of the party showed that some supporters of the party who are interested in contesting for parliamentary seats are going round declaring their intentions to potential delegates thereby destroying the image of the sitting MPs.

He reminded them that supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were awake and would use such inflammatory statements and mudslinging to campaign against the NPP during campaigns towards the 2016 elections.
“Let us remember that the interest of the party is supreme and it will not be good if due to our selfish interest a particular person wins his seat only for the party to lose power,” he said.
Mr Prah said the regional executive were not against anybody interested in contesting any parliamentary seat but wanted to guide against the situation where the sitting MPs would not concentrate on their core mandate and would also decide to defend themselves.
