Kuntu Blankson: Ghanaians Are Our Own Enemies…

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ekumfi-Otuam Constituency, Hon. Kuntu Blankson, believes Ghanaians are their own enemies when it comes to national development.

According to him, national issues which ought to be looked at dispassionately are always been politicize. This he believes “pulls the nation back”.

He insists that, Ghana’s lack of development is to be blamed not only on politicians, but on the citizenry as well for their politicization of national matters at all times.

“I always say that our downfall as a nation is due to our mindset as citizens…We always politicize everything,” he lamented.

Discussing the issue of ‘free SHS education’ on Adom FM which has generated some controversies in recent times between the ruling NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon Blankson described the argument as “unhealthy”.

President John Dramani Mahama during his presentation of the state of the nation address to parliament last Tuesday announced that his administration would from the 2015/2016 academic year implement what he termed as ‘progressive free SHS education’.

The announcement attracted criticisms, mainly from his political opponents citing him for ‘stealing’ the idea from Nana Akufo-Addo substance of his 2012 electioneering campaign.

But Hon. Kuntu Blankson believes, “If Nana Addo wanted to introduce free SHS education and he is not in power (President) now, why can’t the incumbent president do that for the betterment of this country? This is not an issue for discussing. Why must we argue on this…we should all rather embrace the idea and work towards it.”

“What a country must fight for is good education for its citizens. If the president wants to help parents by introducing free education to take away some burdens, why can’t we all commend him?”
