OBY Band Thrills Audience At The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Launch

In the age where entertainers try to outdo themselves and others with fancy pyrotechnics, eye-popping stage costumes or basically just anything that will elicit a wow from the audience – The OBY Band performed an oddly stripped down show at the launch of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. No costume changes, no fancy surprises – just them and their instruments, doing what they love best.

To me, what constituted a bold move by this band was to perform some of their new songs off their upcoming studio album – something that is very different from what some of the musicians aim to do. Even though those songs were new to the audience, the crowd still cheered and swayed along to the music.

Other artistes who performed during the night were Qweci Oteng, Wiyaala, JupitaR, Bisa KDei, among a host of others.

This year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was launched at the gardens of the plush Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.

The event seeks to foster the development of the Ghanaian music industry and reward the artistes, producers, recording labels and other industry professionals whose tireless efforts, in the face of adverse financial and logistical challenges, have kept the entertainment industry vibrant.

The Awards, which is by far the biggest measure of the success of music industry professionals, has over the years, since its inception, grown into the most anticipated event on the entertainment calendar.

The 15th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is a Charter House Ghana event supported by GhOne TV and sponsored by Vodafone.
