‘Unruly’ MP Bashed

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament and a backbencher who has gained notoriety for shouting at members on the opposite side received bashing from the Minority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on Wednesday when he said his behaviour does not belong to the House as an honorable member.

The NDC MP for Yunyoo in the Northern Region, Joseph Bipoba Naabu rudely interrupted the Minority Leader when he was further asking the Health Minister, who appeared before the House on Wednesday, supplementary questions, by shouting across to ask what the Minority leader meant by those probing questions.

“Mr. Speaker, I want to drew your attention to these honorable member’s behaviour which does not belong to his house. He is always found of shouting across at opposite members in disrespectful manner. His behaviour is becoming very unparliamentary and should be called to order,” he said.

Hon. Naabu has been clapping and yelling ‘yeah yeah’ to some contributions by NDC Members of Parliament and has been most notorious in heckling and shouting at his opponents in the House.

At one point in the House’s deliberations he was so ‘noisy’ that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Papa Owusu-Ankomah pleased with the Speaker to recognize him and give him the floor to make his contribution to the debate on the floor but he (Naabu) quickly recoiled into his shell and rejected the offer.

During last week’s sitting, the NPP Member for Old Tafo, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei also asked the Majority leader to give special dispensation to the NDC MP for Yunyoo when it comes to the debate on the President’s States of the Nation Address because of his reactions to contributions made by MPs on the debate but the Majority leader, Dr, Benjamin Kunbuor said the Majority side recognized Joseph Bipoba Naabu as the ‘third’ deputy speaker for Parliament.
