‘Worst Ever State Of Nation Address’ – WOM

A civil society group in Accra, Women on a Mission (WOM,) has described the 2014 State of the Nation address delivered by President John Dramani Mahama last Tuesday as “one of the worst ever the country has witnessed.”

Describing it as “a messing State of the Nation address” the group registered their displeasure at the president’s inability to execute the numerous promises he [the president] made to Ghanaians in 2013.

These were stated in a statement issued to the media and signed by the group’s Communications Director, Naa Akweley Torshie Torto.

“We expected him to talk about the Kotokraba Market he promised the people of Cape Coast,” the statement said.

It further asked President Mahama to tackle the current economic crisis and stop making promises.
“We saw nothing serious in the eyes of the president during his address. We remember the Speaker of Parliament banned “tweaaa” yet the president, who is supposed to know better used this unparliamentary word on the floor of Parliament,” the statement noted.

According to the statement, President Mahama failed to mention how his government will ensure regular power supply for the consuming public.

“As women and mothers, our concern is on education, health and our current economic crises, but the president just made a mockery of those vital issues and instead claimed Ghana still remains the most preferred place in Africa to do business” the statement asserted.

The statement found Mahama’s admission of implementing free Senior High School (SHS) as a mere political talk, arguing that the president was the same person who rubbished the concept during the 2012 electioneering campaign.

The statement therefore charged him to apologise to Ghanaians for describing the policy as a fluke.
