‘Winner Takes All’ Syndrome Hindrance To Ghana’s Multi-party Democracy

A former Director General of the Ghana Health Service and a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosah, says despite twenty-two (22) years of uninterrupted multi-party democracy in Ghana, the winner takes all syndrome has destroyed the beauty and true essence of democracy.

On day two of the J.B. Danquah memorial lectures in Accra, Professor Akosah described the winner takes all mentality and the dye in the wool trick adopted by politicians as a cheap political strategy to obtain votes.

He was emphatic that this is a selfish act which must be tackled with all seriousness.
