Traditional Authorities To Be Prominent In Street Naming

The Adaklu District is to heavily involve traditional authorities in the mandatory street naming programme going on across the country.

This is to make the chiefs, elders, family and clan heads amenable to the physical planning and layout discipline associated with the programme.

Mr Simon Defoe, Works Engineer, Adaklu District, said this during the inauguration of the Street Addressing Team (SAT) at Adaklu-Waya on Wednesday.

He said for the programme to remain functional, all communities must go along with the physical layouts showing markets, playing fields and residential areas among others.

Mr Defoe said the district was yet to receive materials for the exercise and that the team had identified about 64 communities which are to be mapped.

Mr Reuben Akuffo, Deputy Coordinating Director who took the meeting through strategies to be adopted for the exercise, said it would end the embarrassing use of informal directions and local landmarks to get to places.

Mr Emmanuel Sky Ganaku, the Adaklu District Chief Executive, said the location of the district made it the obvious recipient of the spillover population of the fast urbanizing Ho Municipal area.
