I want to know my accuser; disappointed Afoko challenges NPP

Aspiring Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, says he is disappointed with the conduct of the party’s vetting committee, who decided to put his vetting on hold, pending a full investigation into a petition that he (Afoko) was jailed in London for fraud.

According to Paul Afoko, he has not been apprised of the details of the petition, neither has he been told who his accuser is.

His only evidence is that he is innocent.
Afoko told Joy News’ Evans Mensah that all efforts to get the party’s vetting committee to give him a copy of the petition as well as the identity of the petitioner, has been futile.

The aspiring chairman said he is “disappointed” that being the accused person, now has the burden to prove his innocence.

Worse still, he said the party’s vetting committee has now turned itself into the investigator in search for evidence, a duty he believed should have been shouldered by his accuser.

Afoko’s revelations come in the wake of the party giving him the green light to begin campaigning, even though the committee is yet to conclude investigations into the allegations.

His candidature had early on been kept on hold pending investigations into the allegation. Three other candidates vying for the same position, had been cleared to contest.

Paul Afoko said the party’s new directive for him to begin campaigning is of no consequence because he had already been campaigning.

“What the party said did not mean anything,” he said, adding, “I am currently in the Upper West campaigning.”

Asked if he had been jailed in the UK or anywhere in the world for any criminal activity, Paul Afoko categorically denied the claim.

“It is a lie”, he swore, insisting, he had never been involved in any criminal activity.

He said whatever investigation the party is conducting “will amount to nothing” because he is innocent.

“I do things on the basis of what is and not what will be,”… What is, is that i am innocent and i am campaigning,” he said.

Paul Afoko is one of four candidates vying for the party’s topmost position ahead of the delegates conference on April 12 in the Northern regional capital, Tamale.

The others, who are vying for the national chairmanship position of the NPP are Stephen Ntim, Fred Oware and the incumbent Jake Obetsebi Lamptey.
