The Mark Essien Band will on Friday February 28 entertain crowds who will participate in a German carnival at the Goethe-Institut in Accra which will comprise a mask competition.

Consequently, designers have been tasked to create unique masks for the competition, which will witness an award for the craziest mask that would be worn at the carnival.

Fantastically designed clothes and coloured hair would be on parade as merrymakers enjoy the evening while sharing in the multicultural atmosphere that usually prevails at the annual event.

Music and dance groups would be on hand to entertain guests who will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills, by mounting the stage for brief performances.

Carnivals have the potential to attract tourists while serving as catalyst for enhancing economic activity. They can equally help sustain the creative sector in Ghana which has over the past years been recording significant growth rates.

Popular carnivals in Germany are held in southern Germany as well as the Rhineland cities of Mainz , Aachen, Bonn and Dusseldorf.  However, the largest is held in Cologne, where the carnival is annually amalgamated into effervescent works of art.
