How Can Komla Be Gone? – Dumor’s Wife Asks

On the morning of that fateful day, when she woke up and prayed to God to keep her husband and children safe, little did Kwansema know that her loving husband, Komla Afeke Dumor, would die just two hours later.

Many broke into uncontrollable tears, when the mother of Elinam, Elorm and Araba, told the world, how she is struggling to bear with the cavernous pain that the untimely death of Komla Dumor has brought to her life.

“Saturday, January 18, 2014, started like a normal Saturday for us; a day the children and I could check the world out and have Komla to ourselves; a day when he was simply Daddy and my husband. But now that day marked the beginning of a painful and aching void that we still cannot come to terms with”, Kwansema solemnly noted.

She was paying a tribute to her late husband, Komla Afeke Dumor during a burial service held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, Saturday, February 22, 2014.

Kwansema said she was awed by the knowledge and eloquence of the late ace BBC and former Joy FM broadcaster, when they first met as students at the University of Ghana during a group discussion some 18 years ago.

“I sat and I listened to him in awe. In the end I felt so intimidated that I decided not to participate in any study group he was involved in. And yet over time, Komla drew me and gradually won me over…with his intellect and his dream to pursue an extraordinary life”, she indicated.

Kwansema is yet to come to terms with the sudden demise of the man, whose life she said she was privileged to be a part of.

“How can Komla be gone? How can he be forever silent? How can he come over walking through the door of our home in the evenings, when the kids and I would trip over ourselves to be the first to hug him?

“And yet that morning, when I woke up my prayer was this: ‘I will trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding in all my ways, I will acknowledge him and He will direct my paths; Lord I commit my husband and my children into your hands this day’.

“Two hours later, Komla was gone…I will carry with me forever precious and many lovely memories of our journey together…my only consolation now is that you are with the Lord”, Kwansema sadly noted.
