STRIKING NURSES at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have sternly cautioned Kwaku Boahen, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the ruling NDC, not to extend his usual propaganda to their doorstep.
Sounding the warning, the Vice President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Jones Afriyie Anto, lambasted the NDC youth organiser for verbally attacking the KATH nurses on radio without justification.
Mr Boahen, during a chat with Kwadwo Marfo of Kapital Radio in Kumasi on Monday evening, without provocation, descended heavily on the striking doctors and nurses at KATH.
He alleged that most of the doctors at the hospital usually reported to work late whilst ailing patients stayed in long queues, saying that ‘most of the doctors report to work late but nobody is bold enough to say it.’
Although Mr Boahen was only asked by the host of the show to express his views about the issue of striking doctors and nurses at KATH, he ended up lambasting the KATH doctors and nurses instead.
After scolding the doctors, the NDC organiser who was on fire, vented his spleen on the KATH nurses, accusing them of doing shoddy work at the hospital.
Mr Boahen, without producing any concrete evidence, stated that lackadaisical attitude on the part of the KATH nurses, led to the missing of the dead baby at the facility, recently.
He also opened fire on the KATH doctors and nurses on Monday evening, some few hours after the KATH management, at a marathon meeting, had appealed passionately to the striking doctors and nurses to return to work.
Mr Boahen then jabbed the police in the city for dragging their feet with regards to investigating the matter to ascertain what really triggered the missing dead baby at the hospital.
He was peeved because the police had so far failed to arrest at least two of the KATH nurses that were on duty at the labour ward of the hospital when the missing baby case occurred.
Brimming with rage, Kwaku Boahen said if the police were committed to getting to the bottom of the case, at least, some of the KATH nurses should have been arrested by the police by now to assist in investigation.
The NDC organiser, who was summoned before the Supreme Court judges that sat on the 2012 election petition over his loose talk, stated that KATH was not being managed well ‘and we need to tell the truth.’
Mr Boahen’s persistent attacks on the KATH nurses forced Mr Afriyie Anto to call into the programme to sternly caution the NDC youth organiser to refrain from attacking nurses without cause.
He said Mr Boahen was trying to pitch the public against nurses, which was dangerous and an unfortunate situation, warning the NDC official to refrain from such ungodly acts.
Mr Afriyie Anto stated that the KATH doctors and nurses have laid down their tools to genuinely demand proper protection from management after they were violently attacked and injured by rampaging Zongo youth.
