UG tollbooth demolition: Gbevlo Lartey must be sacked – Wereko-Brobby

The Chief Policy Analyst at the Ghana Institute for Public Policy Options, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is calling for the immediate dismissal of National Security Coordinator, Col. (retd.) Larry Gbevlo Lartey for authorizing  the demolition of the University of Ghana tollbooth, which was under construction.

According to him, the Security Coordinator has no locus to go under the cover of darkness to perpetuate such “barbaric” act.

Tarzan as he is popularly called, was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

Col. (retd.) Larry Gbevlo Lartey  early today, February 18, authorized some armed officers to pull down the tollbooth under construction at the Okponglo entrance of the University.

The Security capo said his action is to ease traffic congestion around the University and its environs.

But Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby said President John Mahama must sack the Security Coordinator to prove he is in charge of affairs in the country.

He therefore noted that Gbevlo Lartey has no business acting in this manner under civilian rule, adding that the president must stop this “act of barbarism and hooliganism”.

Additionally, Tarzan pointed out that there are institutions under the laws of Ghana that are mandated to control traffic and not Gbevlo Lartey.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby said if President Mahama does not stamp his authority, it will be an indictment on his government.

“If we are not careful, dictatorship will come back to this country through the back door”, he warned.
